Drinking 60-Year-Aged Pu’er worth $1300 in Beijing [Jesse’s Tea Journey]
Hey tea friends! I got to try some aged pu'er when I was in Beijing. :)
A big thank you to Jia Laoshi for introducing me to this cool teahouse. They’re experts in aging raw pu’er. We had some tea from the 1960s and chatted about the aging process.
I couldn’t make these trips without our tea community. Thank you for watching, seriously.

    The travel teapot plus a thermos of water (or a hotpot) is my favorite way to enjoy tea all day long. 5g of tea, if you don't mind it going from tea to tea flavored water(by end of day) is all ya need per day. Even fountain pop would be more expensive per day for the same amount of fluid

    Yeah, when I say I spend $400 on a years worth of tea, people ask me why I waste so much money not realizing that I'm buying pounds of mid to high quality tea at around $0.50-$5.00 a steeping. So, probably about 200 cups per pound for a single steep, 400 if I do a second steeping (western style tea making/japanese teas containing matcha), for Chinese red teas about the same maybe more because you can get around 13 steepings out of a good red tea or oolong (gongfu style). Those same people get Panera bread iced tea when they could get an amazing cylon black for less than half the price and twice the flavor. It's very sad how much money people waste. Heck, for iced tea, you could do a cold overnight steeping, not even having to boil water, set, and forget.

    And the short steep time is ADHD friendly. 3-5 minute steeps for western style is a no-go for me but I can stay focused for 15 seconds.

    I do love doing grandpa style with like "bulk" teas or some greens really shine that way too. I do the "one cup method" where I just put a teaspoon of leaf in the cup and wait for it to all sink to the bottom.

    I will say, I tried to have a full tea session in 10 mins before and the best you can get in that time (if you count heating the water) is 1-2 cups, I would probably say a normal session would be 20 mins or so, unless you preheat the water, then yeah you could have a full session in 10 mins at that point

    2 cups, 1 tea strainer (handheld) would be a low cost way of not having floaties. Or get a tea strainer ball for loose leaf tea and remove it when done steeping.

    I got the 8 tea sampler and have been using the 2 cup method. A strainer/seive solves the "floaties" issue. As a person from the Indian subcontinent, i am used to "chai latte" type of teas, so this was a pleasant experience to have. The most noticeable thing for me was the sweet aftertaste from most of the teas.

    • @jessesteahouse
      @jessesteahouse 5 годин тому

      The Indian varieties of teas were bred for the British taste - which is to say a bit over strong because they expect to add milk/sugar/spice. But the chinese teas tend to be lighter and sweeter because they don’t usually add stuff. Could be a fun way to switch up teatime occasionally from the Indian style and the chinese style

    A good part of the time thing is that I’ll do the whole ceremony of getting my set, sealing the cups with boiling water, wait for the right temp, pour out the first steep, etc etc BECAUSE it takes a while. This activity reminds me to save time in my day/week to be mindful and enjoy something that’ll bring my mood up and do good for my body. Yes to the time “wasting” (because it’s never wasted when it’s spent on yourself!)

      Just so you know, you can use any figurine that can take the heat!! I totally understand if it’s just that you’d rather buy from Jesse, but Etsy has many stone and clay figurines that would work well. Just don’t use anything plastic or absorbent. I looked and found a really cute capybara in a bucket that would be an ADORABLE tea pet!! (I will try to post the link. It’s a bit pricier than Jesse’s tea pets, though!)
